Want To Know How To Create A Tailored Weight Loss Programme?

A blog by Wayne Lambert (owner and Lead Consultant of LAMBERT Wellbeing).

Many years ago when i was a personal trainer i always had clients that wanted to lose more weight than they were already losing. Their workout  plans were tailor-made specifically to help them reach their goals, but these particular clients just kept on coming back for more – not wanting to get fit but wanting to lose more weight. For business reasons this is great if you want to keep the same client for the long-term, but for me i always thought that my job was to get them to a point of fitness (their full potential) – which is what i always did. Their goals were met, but the goal posts kept moving. The problem was that it came to a point when my client base was full, and i needed to start offloading clients so that i could help others in need. The aforementioned clients were simply not helping themselves with their nutrition.

Upon reflection, a personal training course only teaches you so much about nutrition – which unfortunately is the biggest piece of the puzzle when it comes to losing weight. As a result i attended lots more courses related to weight management, obesity and diabetes management, but there was still a piece of the puzzle missing.

It wasn’t until i completed a few more courses 1) a 3 week Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) course in Miami (10hrs a day, 5 days a week), and 2) a course that had a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) aspect to it. I had finally found that missing piece of the puzzle. Then, and only then could i help those types of client with their ‘mind/body’ connection. Consequently i could move clients through their programmes more quickly, and gain enough new clients from word-of-mouth referrals – equalling happier clients all round with faster results.

A few questions for you:

  1. Do you have clients whose minds keep putting up barriers for them, so that they don’t succeed?
  2. Do you know how to prepare them fully, so that they are ready to commence such a journey/challenge?
  3. Have you considered all the factors that are involved before you begin with your client…mentally, logistically and do you take into account all their ‘work-life’ factors – that they must overcome to fully reach their goals?

Whatever your business goals are, some clients may not be a good fit for you or your company. The sad fact is, that it may actually be too overwhelming for these particular clients to start your programme – until they are fully ready to begin. Similarly, unless you have fully prepared them for this journey, it may always be easy for them to give up – giving in to the million and one obstacles that could potentially stand in their way.

The fact is, losing weight is easy for some people but not others – so why is that?

Soon we will be offering a psychology-based weight loss course, especially for professionals who have clients like these. So if this is something you may be interested in email: info@lambertwellbeing.com to get yourself on the waiting list.
